A Multimillion-Dollar Renovation Fusing Functionality and History and Culture of Shinjuku, Set for Completion in October

Hilton Tokyo, located in Shinjuku and managed by General Manager Felix Busch, is embarking on a multi-million dollar phased renovation of its events spaces as part of ongoing efforts to meet continued strong demand and consolidate its position as the leading MICE hotel in Japan, as rated by Cvent in its 2024 Asia-Pacific listing. The hotel will renovate its entire third floor in the first stage of improvements, adding 200 sqm of meeting space to the existing 1,000 sqm to create modern, vibrant, flexible, AV tech-enabled rooms that harmonize Shinjuku’s traditional and contemporary craftsmanship.

More international team members are being onboarded, increasing the number of languages spoken by the business events team to eight, and events packages will continue to offer Hilton’s best-in-class carbon offset program as organizers increasingly seek to meet ESG mandates.

Next-generation MICE

The massive renovation project will result in four meeting rooms, five function rooms, one pre-function room, three break-out areas and one lecture hall—a unique resource in Tokyo. With a focus on flexibility, functionality, and convenience, the rooms are capable of various layouts including classroom, theater, and banquet. Large and adjoining spaces can be connected, split, and orientated in multiple ways. Access to F&B services will be enhanced thanks to built-in or nearby facilities as well as greater capability to open up the floor, promoting the smooth flow of guests.

The new spaces will be furnished with the highest-grade LED screens and digital audio technology systems, as part of Hilton Tokyo’s partnership with Vega Project K.K. Launched in 2022, the alliance has already equipped the hotel with a one-of-a-kind curved LED screen (W15.1m x H3.04m), the largest LED screen of any hotel ballroom in Japan.

Embracing authenticity

For more than 100 years, Shinjuku has led Japan in letterpress printing and indigo dyeing, thanks to its skilled artisans and high-quality water running through its small rivers. Now, Hilton Tokyo’s third floor invites guests on a journey through the district’s rich history as a center of craftsmanship, with each new space telling a distinct part of this design narrative.

The color palette introduces the traditional colors of Tokyo. Dark blue, used prolifically in designs in Japan since the 17th century, blends with indigo, representing Shinjuku’s role in the art of dyeing, while the earthy tones are a reminder of the traditional wooden buildings of Shinjuku. Accents of gold evoke the samurai who once lived in the neighborhood.

Developing capabilities for large MICE

Following the renovation’s completion in mid-October, the hotel’s fourth floor, including its iconic ballroom, will be renewed in summer 2025. The entire business events upgrade builds on the hotel’s growing appeal to large groups, including for business, social, and incentive events, thanks to its 830 guest rooms. Hilton Tokyo has also recently expanded into outside event catering, serving up to 3,500 participants at one time.

With Hilton’s history of over 60 years in Japan, we are delighted to commence this renovation with a significant investment into our conference & events facilities. This will allow us to continue to be the top MICE hotel in Japan, attracting and delighting guests from all over the world with best-in-class facilities, a locally inspired design, and the latest technology.

This renovation allows us to capitalize on the surge in demand for MICE events from clients all over the world. Our new unique meeting floor is designed to meet the growing need for flexible space, enabling our experienced event team to provide seamless events, from enquiry to delivery.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Hilton Tokyo to bring this advanced technology to their event spaces. The highly customizable AV setup within the modular event space offers event organizers unprecedented levels of control, enabling them to create truly exceptional user experiences.

With this renovation, Hilton Tokyo is poised to become the premier destination for MICE events, offering state-of-the-art facilities that blend functionality, flexibility, and a deep respect for Shinjuku’s rich culture and history.
